This salad originates from Bulgaria, Serbia and North Macedonia, however, it is also very widespread in Croatia. Shopska salad is a great combination of typical summer vegetables: cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers, and with the addition of salty feta cheese, it becomes a complete summer meal. Shopska salad is most often served as an indispensable side dish to many grilled dishes. But on summer days, it can really serve as an excellent and light refreshing meal.
The recipe for shop salad does not tolerate too many modifications. So, the basic ingredients should be exactly as stated in the recipe. What you can change is the way of cutting the vegetables and the type of salty cheese that is added to the salad. Cheese can also be added to the salad cut into cubes, and it can also be grated. There is not too much philosophy when seasoning the shop salad: very little salt (because feta cheese is salty by itself, so be careful not to oversalt it), some pepper, apple cider vinegar, sunflower oil and that's it. Shopska salad tastes best when well chilled. Make it as soon as possible and refresh your taste buds!
